Other Nevada Stuff

Nevada by Moon Handbooks 2011 by Avalon Travel and Scott Smith. Excellent guidebook for Nevada.

A bicyclist travels across America. The above site is Nevada. Check out the other trips!!!.
The writer mentions The Shoe Tree of Middlegate which we missed because it was cut down by vandals!

Sand Mountain. 20 Miles east of Fallon is Sand Mountain. 600 feet high, 2 miles long, and one mile wide. If you like big sand piles (I do), camping (I do), and ATVs (I don't), visit here or not...

Spencer's Hot Springs. We missed this. On Hwy 50, 12 miles east of Austin, take State Route 376 south for 1/4 mile, turn left onto a gravel road. See Toquima Cave historic marker and travel 5.5 miles, turn left onto a dirt road, and follow to springs.

Tonopah: Mizpah Hotel re-opened in 2013. Library in town with free Internet!!! This was the only town after 140 miles with a gas station!!! Beware of long distance between gas stations!!! Actually, Nevada warns drivers with signage of distance for gas.

I LOVED Nevada!

Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park, Nevada

Not Ichthyosauraus, Ichthyosaur.
Old things, Ichthyosaur, and old things, mills.
State park $7 worth every penny. Tour was $3 or something. Once again, a very good deal.  The ranger was the best ever promoting Nevada. Thus, 2014 touring Nevada.
Camping was $10 and great, except we needed to watch for mountain lions.

In the park, mountain lion print near our campground.

Berlin old site.

Nine Ichthyosaurs fossil shelter.

Berlin site, last original mill in Nevada.

A favorite at Berlin, NV.

Key Pittman Wildlife Management Area and Mt. Irish Rock Art and Petroglyphs, Hiko, Nevada Hwy 318

On State Hwy 318, Nesbitt Lake and Frenchy Lake are on the east of hwy 318. Frenchy Lake is for irrigation. Nesbitt is a nice stop with trees for shade on a hot day. To enter Nesbitt Lake, open, drive through, then close the gate so animals do not escape. There is even a restroom. Nonmotorized boats are allowed.
***THEN: Across the highway on west side of highway from Nesbitt Lake is a BLM barb-wired gate and very easy to miss... Open gate, drive through, then replace gate so animals do not escape.
This is Mount Irish Rock Art and Archeological District. The guidebook says a car can go the 18 miles. We had 4-wheel drive and it was a bit tough. We took other side roads that are only for 4-wheel drive. At about mile 9, the rocky/dirt road has a registration for the petroglyphs of Southern Paiute Indians. We were lucky and got a booklet on the area.
Ataltl (hunting weapon). Looks like spear.

Camping Somewhere near Eureka, NV at Lake Something-or-other.

Mustangs

Lake Something-or-other

Bluebirds

I called him Snow.

Great spot, forgot the name... Lake with camping (no drinking water) and afternoon viewing of 6 wild Mustang horses (from afar). All 6 of our gallon water jugs froze over night. Froze completely...
Lake is about 10 miles West of Eureka. Many fishermen and fisherwomen...
